BioKing Eric III of Norway, also known as Eric VII of Pomerania, succeeded to the throne at the age of 7, in 1389, and ruled for 53 years. He also became king of both Denmark and Sweden in 1397, a union of the three nations, called the Kalmar Union, that would last until 1523, when Sweden broke off. He married King Henry IV of England's daughter Philippa. He was one of the twenty longest ruling monarchs in Europe's history, but was overthrown from the Kalmar Union in 1439 because of internal politics.
"At the time when he was deposed as the king in Sweden and Denmark, he was offered to rule as a Norwegian king only. It is said he refused the offer by saying it is better to be a pirate chieftain on Gotland (now Gotland County in Sweden) than being the king of Norway."
In years 1449-1459 he ruled the Duchy of Slupsk (part of Duchy of Pomerania) as Eric I. He died in 1459.
